Citizen Men’s Eco-Drive Titanium Watch #BM6560-54H Review

OK, I just got the watch today, so I can’t speak to durability. But there are some things to consider if you’re thinking about this watch.

First, the Amazon description shows the watch as being water resistant to 99 feet. The actual information packaged with the watch, is clear that the watch is merely water resistant to 3 atmospheres, which permits minor exposure such as you’d encounter in the rain or when washing face or hands. It is definitely NOT for use while swimming, showering, etc. I’d like to see this corrected in the description.

Second, in other reviews of other Citizen watches, I’ve read about people adjusting the bracelet and being unable to keep the pins in place. This is how it works:

1. I definitely recommend purchasing one of the bracelet adjustment tools listed on Amazon. For I got a “heavy duty” one that, while definitely not heavy duty, was adequate to the task of adjusting my bracelet.

2. Pay attention to the little arrows on the inside of the bracelet when you push the pins out with the tool. You’ll push the pins about 1/4 inch out, then pull them the rest of the way with a pair of pliers. I used my Leatherman tool quite successfully for this.

3. When you pull out the pins, be on the lookout for tiny little metal “sleeves” less than 1/4 inch long that will fall out of the links. These are important. You may want to spread a white cloth or some paper, and work over that surface so you can find anything that falls out. Cloth may be best because it will discourage bouncing (which will have you on the floor with a flashlight while your coworkers wonder what you’re doing under your desk).

4. When re-assembling the bracelet, hold the little sleeve thingie with your needle-nose pliers and slip it into one of the holes on the “2-prong” side of the link. It will slip easily into one, and won’t go into the other at all.

5. Slip the sleeve into the prong that will accept it, keep the link upright so the sleeve doesn’t fall out, line up the links, and slip the pin into the link. It will go a short way in, then you’ll need to tap it gently (I used the pliers hinge on my Leatherman). I tapped it in a little ways, then, when I got nervous about marring the link if I got too close, I turned it over and pressed the pin in the rest of the way by pushing it down on my desk.

6. Finally, when the pin was flush, I used the bracelet adjustment tool again to push the pin in just a little further so it is the same depth as the other pins.

7. Now the pins won’t fall out, and your watch won’t fall onto the sidewalk or into a puddle of water where it will demonstrate just how water resistant it really is.

I’ll update my review if it turns out I don’t like the watch after all. I’m taking away one star because Amazon got the description wrong, even though the Citizenwatch website got it right.

Ever since I’ve owned this watch, I’ve had different people tell me that they liked it and that I must have spent a lot of money on it. Even my Dentist questioned me about it. Timex Men’s Ironman 750-Lap Titanium Resin Strap Watch #T5J671 Review

This Timex Ironman is a lot more professional looking than the “Dress Watch” seen below (I also owned and reviewed the “Dress Watch” watch below):

The “Dress Watch” had a resin wristband that was very comfortable, but was prone to developing tensile cracks (see review). This wristband appears to be made out of a similar resin, but the latch mechanism is completely different. The clasp type on the “Dress Watch” is like a belt buckle – the combination of this clasp type and wristband material was not the best (the tensile cracks developed in areas that bent the most during latching). However, the clasp type with this watch is a pushbutton deployment clasp (usually found on metal wristbands) – the combination of this clasp type with the resin wristband material should be a much better fit (the band does not bend to the extreme the “Dress Watch” had to bend). Also, this wristband is fully adjustable (whereas links must be removed from metal wristbands in order to adjust).

There are a couple of downsides to this watch:
1) the titanium pieces that connect the watch-face unit to the wristband make it uncomfortable to wear the watch even semi-loose – the titanium pieces dig into my wrist bone if it is too loose, and

2) the deployment clasp has a tendency to grab a few of my wrist hairs while closing (although this can be avoided with some practice).

Tissot Men’s Titanium Ana-Digi Watch #T65.7.588.61 Review

This watch looks great and functions well. I’ve had it for a little over a week and it so far kept in sync with my atomic radio clock.

The watch body and the band are well crafted and feel very substantial. In fact, a bit too substantial, I was really surprised how heavy the watch was when I received it, I expected it to be much lighter considering its quartz movement and titanium body and band.

The band has plenty of adjustments to fit anyone’s wrist and it’s pretty easy to adjust, just don’t try to find the band adjustment instructions in the manual, they are not there. To adjust the band I cut a piece of a small pin, flattened it’s tip with a sharpening stone and used it to knock out the band pins in the direction shown by arrows on the band links.

Now the cons:

The band is pretty thick and inflexible which makes it a bit uncomfortable. It also catches and pools my wrist hairs which is pretty annoying.

The digital display on this watch is way too dark, it’s only possible to read in a bright light. The Amazon picture of the digital display is accurate, that’s how it is in real life – believe it.
